In this session, staff will learn about the four key components of English spelling:

• Phonological Knowledge
• Orthographic Mapping
• Morphology
• Etymology

We will be looking at:

• Why each of these is important in a child’s spelling journey.
• How to use these to identify the types of errors children might make and where the difficulty is.
• How to implement these ideas using the Spelling Shed scheme, from Stage 1 to Stage 6.
• Using word study and spelling in context to enhance your spelling teaching.
